Moving to Beijing
 

Hello, and apologies if in the wrong spot. I am moving to Beijing in July. I will have a Z Visa from my place of employment. Any flyer-talkers in Beijing? Other question--I am bringing my cat. A shipping company wants $750.00 to help get my cat in, arrange quarantine, etc. Just wondering if this is something I could do on my own (not speaking a lick of Mandarin) or if it would be worth it in the end to pay the fee??? (sorry, getting rid of the cat is not an option. I already hauled her to Dallas from Istanbul!) Thanks if anyone can help! : )

Not sure if if helps, but last month on ua857, the 2 girls ahead of me in line had a cat with them in a car carrier. I suggest you do some more research before forking over $750.

Also, PM me if you need help finding an apartment. I have a friend here that is really good.

Use the Agency!
 

If the money is not an issue I would let the agency handle everything for you. Even if you spoke perfect mandarin it would probably be difficult to arrange something like this as it would involve a few trips to government offices where nobody there would be too interested in helping you out although in Beijing you'd probably find someone at each office who spoke passable English. It would not be a good way to get adjusted to a new country!

If you have a good agency do it for you they will have contacts at whatever government ministry you have to go thru to import your cat and things will be hastle free. If you do it yourself you are inviting a hastle!

I get stopped about every other time I go thru a Chinese border crossing because I have a piece of fruit in my bag. I'm think they would stop you if you just tried to carry your cat in.

I'm in Beijing and I always travel between beijing and Irving TX.
