Cartoon Protests/Kuala Lumpur

Hey everyone,

I am planning on traveling to Kuala Lumpur from Hong Kong soon, should i be worried about the huge flag burning protest that just took place in KL? I'm American to the bone, not Danish, but i dont think an angry mob would care very much. I'd stick out like a sore thumb im over 6 feet tall and white as a ghost.

Can anyone that has been to KL drop some knowledge on me concerning the general saftey of foreigners? Thanks.

I'm in KL at the minute and so are what must be thousands of other foreigners. I wouldn't worry in the slightest. If you see a large group of people protesting (which I can't say I have, nor do I expect to) then just head the other way.

Actually I am in KL at the moment and saw the protest on CNN while staying at the Sheraton. I was concerned that it was the day I saw it (Saturday) - but upon inquiry I found out it was the day before. I had simply planned to avoid the area.

I guess luck was with me b/c it turns out the Danish embassy is quite close to the hotel and I had walked around the previous afternoon - either the demo took place before or after I was in the area or I was just very lucky (well had I seen a large group of people I would have avoided it as I would in any city but I guess I would have had a bit of an adrenalin rush.

I am American as well and don't feel any less safe than I ever have whilst in KL.

You're an American and use the word whilst?
