What's being built where Siam Inter-Continental was?

Does anyone know if a hotel is being currently built at the BKK location where Siam Inter-Continental was? If so, which one? Thanks.

There's going to be a Kempinski, if this information is still valid.

You guys all know that the Plaza Athenee (near the Conrad Bangkok) is going to be Le Meridien?

Last I heard, half of it is going to be the Kempinski and the other half is going to be another shopping center like the Siam Center and the Siam Discovery Center.

Siam Paragon

It will be called SIAM PARAGON and will be on 24 acres (former site of the old Intercontinental Hotel). It supposed to open end of 2005. They are working on it 24 hours a day.

As reported in the press, the site will include one of Asia's largest Oceanariums (aquariums), an Opera/Theater House, 16 movie screens collectively called Cinepolis, an IMAX 3-D Theater (supposedly Asia's largest), 52 bowling lanes, a luxury fashion shopping center, a hi-tech "Digital" shopping area, serviced apartments for long stay business people, a convention center, a major hotel for shorter stays (reported to be managed by Kempenski), a large California Fitness Center (which is already operating a very popular center on Silom Road/Patpong and also in other major cities in Asia), a Gourmet Food Market, restaurants of all kinds, a jewelry center, a book store, a music store and a travel center. Some say it will be connected by walkways to the Skytrain and to the neighboring Siam Center (which in turn connects to the Siam Discovery Center and in turn by walkway to the huge MBK Shopping Center.

Also, almost next door to the new Siam Paragon (separated by a major Thai Buddhist Temple) will be the refurbished Central World Plaza (formerly the World Trade Center). In the main tower of the Central World Plaza, there will also be another luxury brand hotel (in addition to offices). I'm still trying to find out which. This is scheduled to finish by end of 2004/beginning 2005 according to my real estate broker friends. Rumors are that this center will also connect by walkway to the Siam Paragon with catwalks under the existing Skytrain track and thus connect to the Siam Center Skytrain Station.

When all of these finish, this will probably be the center of shopping in Bangkok (and when the new subway system opens in July 2004, the feeds to this center (together with the existing Skytrain) will boom!).
Im seriously thinking of buying a condo very nearby :)
