Cafe @ 2 at the Conrad Bangkok
This is the casual dining room of the newly-opened Conrad. Unintentionally stopped in here for dinner while checking out the breakfast menu. The decor is rather modern and quite impressive (wood, glass, lighting) ambience wise. The comical wooden elephants were a nice touch.
Food: The most impressive offering was the buffet at THB 450. While selection was rather small, it was impressively displayed and appeared to be very fresh. The central piece was the salad bar which also offered 3 varieties of seafood (prawns, mussels and salmon). There were also Thai, Asian and western hot choices, a Prime rib beef station (only place I've ever seen the rib with the meat), a dim sum station, a Indian (vegetarian) station and dessert. My family ordered a la carte as we had lunched at the J.W. Marriott's White Elephant earlier that day. The a la carte menu reflected the buffet's Thai, Indian (vegetarian assortment), Chinese, Western, Japanese and other Asian offerings. My father ordered the Sashimi/Sushi which was straight from the buffet station (but freshly made by the chef at hand). Freshness and presentation was as good as one could expect. The ginger was also of the undyed variety. My mother had a fish soup (good) and a pasta (bit thick and creamy). I ordered a Thai pan-friend garoupa (or was it snapper?) which was excellently cooked and very fresh (parents thought it might was well have been a "swimming-fresh" fish) which was accompanied with rice. Service was good but a bit clumsy but this restaurant had also just opened just 8 days earlier. [This message has been edited by terenz (edited 01-12-2003).] |
