Any suggestions on how to get from BKK to Laem Chabang plus how much time it would take?

My parents are flying into BKK and need to board their cruise ship in Laem Chabang and are trying to figure out how to best get there.

Probably best to go by cab. Should take about 90 minutes and cost between CAD35 and CAD70 depending on their bargaining skills.

By the way do you think there would be any buses from BKK to Laem Chabang?

Since Laem Chabang is mostly a commercial port, and only cruise ships dock there (no regular passenger service to my knowledge), I doubt there are any direct busses from the airport.


Going by regular bus will be a chore, and easily take 2-3 more hours than by car:

1. take public aircon bus (not special airport line) to Eastern bus terminal (not particularly safe)
2. take scheduled bus to Laem Chabang
3. take taxi to cruise ship pier


I concur with the amounts mentioned above.

There also are prepaid 'limo' services using high-mileage Camrys or Benzes, which usually cost 2-3 times more than taxis.

I don't know how far it is, but taking a taxi even a long distance is cheap. Unbelievably cheap.

I took a cab from the Westin Sukhumvit in Bangkok to Pattaya for around $35USD. If I recall it was more than a two hour drive, closer to three. I was in a cab and told him I wanted to go to the bus station, he said I'll take you and I said no thanks. He then gave me a price and I starting converting in my head real fast. I thought I must be converting wrong because I knew how far it was.

Sure enough what a bargain for the convenience.

To help with the bargaining, here is some background info:

- licensed Bangkok cabs all have yellow plates
- yellow and green cabs are owner-operated, red and blue ones company-owned. I usually find the latter are newer, but the former more safely driven
- a Bangkok cabbie makes 500-1,000THB a day. A driver of a company-owned cab must pay 500 baht to his company every day. Thus, the prospect of a >1,000 baht fare will be very attractive.
- fares to Pattaya can be lower than for equally distant destinations, as the cabbie has a hope of finding passengers on the way back.
