Batu Caves
 

I have a longer layover in Kula Lumpur (arriving: 07:10, departing: 21:00) so I'd like to visit the Batu Caves.
My planned schedule for that day:
- go to Batu Caves from Kuala Lumpur or directly from the airport
- return to Kuala Lumpur
- lunch/dinner in Kuala Lumpur
- go up Petronas Tower
- return to the airport between 19:00 and 20:00

Is this route doable with the given time schedule (target time for being back from the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur: 15:00)?
1.) How long is the travel time to Batu Caves?
2.) Which options do I have to go there? (I'm interested in faster options.)
3.) How long do you recommend to stay at Batu Caves?
4.) Any recommendation for lunch/dinner appreciated (first class cuisine, excellent service, Asian cuisine preferred). The restaurant must open quite early because of my departure time. Lunch/Dinner at ~15:00 would be best.

Yes - plenty of time.

Not more than 1 hour in traffic from downtown KL (Golden Triangle/Bukit Bintang) - it's just a short distance away really, approx. 10 miles. Batu Caves is in the Sentul/Jalan Ipoh area north of KL.

Take the train from the airport to the KL Sentral station in Brickfields. Grab a cab from there.

Outside the main Hindu festivals (Thaipusam etc), Bat Caves is relatively deserted. I'd spend 45 minutes to an hour there looking at the limestones and the Hindu deities etc. Maybe take in some fresh coconut juice at the foot of the steps: street vendors there will hack open a fresh young green coconut open for you and watch monkeys scampering around.

Sorry can't help much here - not much of a first class cuisine foodie. 15:00 is not a problem-food in KL is a round-the-clock thing. I'm of the opinion though the best KL has to offer isn't be in a posh restaurant.

It depends to what type of food that you like. If you intend to visit the Twin Tower(Petronas), then there are plenty of first class cuisine there at the shopping mall. There's also the Mandarin Hotel next to it, which is First class. For steak, there's Victoria Station and Hotels would be a good idea if you want to sample the local food.
I'm certain that there are no fine dining around the Batu Caves area.
You can find plenty of good places to eat in the city centre at any time of the day.

Good to know that Batu Caves is not that far away and that I've plenty of time.

You're surely right that food in (small) local restaurants gives a more authentic impression while first class food in larger hotels or restaurants is available almost everywhere. I also like first class food accompanied with excellent service that is available in many Asian locations at reasonable costs compared to having this experience in the much more expensive European/American/... restaurants.
