Getting to the SIN Zoo

What are the options in getting to/from the Singapore Zoological Gardens from the Sheraton?

I'm interested in weighing the options between easy, cheap, & fast ways! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

I can't remember if we took a bus or taxi from the Shangri-La. I think it was a cab & it must have been cheap or we wouldn't have done it. So you finally are going to have that date with the Orangutan!! Have fun!

i know the train (SMRT) goes to the night safari which is in the sin zoo complex, so this may be the cheapest way to go. i can't remember where the sheraton in SIN is, but if you are close to an MRT station, you are close to the zoo, night safari is definitely worth visiting over the zoo ;-) but both are v'good.

I did this last summer, basically you take the MRT to Ang Mo Kio station then take bus 138. Painless and cheap but takes awhile as the bus makes lots of stops with the zoo being last.

The web site says it takes 30-40 minutes but I think it took closer to an hour, I remember a fairly long wait for the bus. There's a lot of restaurants and shops around the station so next time I plan on getting there early and checking out the area.

Each time we've gone (once for zoo, once for night safari), we've taken taxis. It takes about 30-40 minutes from most places in town. ding-dong! ding-dong!

There is a taxi stand outside both that you can use to get back - I was originally worried about that. Especially for night safari, there are a lot of people coming and going at the same time, so it's no problem. Additionally, at least outside the zoo entrance, there is one of those little "call a cab" machines that operates for a dollar or so. I highly recommend those whenever you see a lineup of people. It issues you a ticket with a number on it, and you can bypass the line when your cab shows up. Also important at the base of the tower (middle) cable car stop.

Cheap = MRT to Ang Mo Kio (NS16) + 138 bus, especially if you have an EZLink card. Note that 138 bus stop to the Zoo/Night Safari is now out the West door from the MRT station and turn right to the central bus stop about 100m up the road, more or less opposite the Jubilee building. Don't cross the street. There is barely some signage in the station.

Convenient + pretty cheap: For 2 or more people, you may as well take a taxi.

Note also that returning from the Night Safari, you may want to take the special cheapo bus direct to town. Ask at the Night Safari reception counter.

If chexy is having tea with the orangutan, who will take pictures? Pictures, I want pictures!

I suggest just to take a taxi.
It is fast and convenient. No worry about transfer, etc.
Taking a taxi in SIN is so cheap anyway.

Take a cab. Just got back last week and the cab ride was comfortable and convenient. It was all of $12 Singapore from the Conrad.

It was more like $20SGD each way. That comes to about $12USD, though.

Took about an hour from the Hilton on the MRT and bus. Return was on the other bus, it arrived first and drop off at different MRT station. Had a day transit card so it was cheap. Also got to ride on the driverless LRT loop since I like transportation things. Directions are in the Zoo Brochure for both public transportation options.

Do they still have the garden-walled open-air restrooms at the entrance to the Night Safari? It has been a few years, but I was impressed! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...m/thumbsup.gif
