A weekend in Dhaka

I have going to spend a weekend in Dhaka at the end of March. Any suggestions on what to do, where to eat etc. Never been in Dhaka or Bangladesh before so any advice warmly welcomed.

If you're interested in architecture, check out (or at least as close as you can get) the Parliament.

Traffic is some of the worst I've ever encountered, and most of that is due to the seemingly ceaseless collection of rickshaws.

Take a half-day trip to Savar to visit the memorial of the war of independence.

I'm thinking of going in mid-May, right before Monsoon season. I take it the political unrest is over now? Any reasons I shouldn't go? Thanks!

I come to Dhaka every month for business, which probably makes me biased, but to be honest I would encourage you to go somewhere else. The city is just horrible....filthy, permanently jammed, noisy and totally lacking in any sort of beauty whatsoever. It is without doubt the least appealing city I know, despite the friendliness of the people, who are wonderful and deserve much better from their corrupt political leaders.

If you still want to give it a go, I can give you some tips, but honestly ask yourself if it's worth doing !
