Uzbekistan question [converting foreign currency]
Could any recent visitors to Uzbekistan advise what is the best way to convert foreign currency into the local Som? While I imagine US$ would be easiest to convert, I have a stack of GBP left over from my last tri[p to the UK and ideally would like to get rid of these, though not at a poor rate of exchange.
Talking of which, does one get better exchange rates in Uzbekistan at banks, sundry exchange kiosks or elsewhere? |
Sorry, I've never been, but last time I checked Uzbekistan was in Asia so you might have better luck if the post is moved to the correct continent.

Not a answer for you puchong but just want to check that your GBP notes are new plastic ones and not old withdrawn notes.

There's a small exchange stand in the arrival area at Tashkent airport: turn left right after passport control. Excellent rates for USD/SOM. And very quick. Far easier than heading to a bank.
Note that USD notes at least must be crisp and pristine. |
It is several years since I changed money in Uzbekistan (since there are ATM's everywhere now). However, it was never a problem back then. USD, EUR, GBP and Yen were popular. But it was always critical that the notes were in perfect condition. No marks or damage. There always were plenty of exchange offices.
