Phuket vs Jeju
Hey all,
Anyone got opinions of the two? I am a bit scared Phuket will be full of chavs. I would be staying in Bangtao.
(I liked Bali/Bangkok and these had a few Australian louts, but most were really nice actually. But for example I couldn't stand Larnaca - It felt like everyone was British - how boring, I want new experiences!)
(Mods: Please don't delete, this relates to a HND-LHR booking I did with Avios, also I want the opinions of the BA FT who will understand the concept of chavs, other forums would not understand this)

You won't find chavs in Phuket, so much as bogans. And even then, you won't find them around Phuket town or in the north of the island - they gravitate towards Patong with all that that entails.

For the OW traveller, a major problem with Jeju is getting there. The only flight by the alliance is a long, rather expensive one with only Y seating from Hong Kong. Most tourists are Korean, with a few Chinese and some Japanese. Other nationalities are rare, although Korean members of some international bodies hold conferences and meetings there.
There are some interesting bits of scenery and a few beaches, but the ambiance is completely different to that of Thailand's beach resorts.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will search the thailand forum too.
I have learnt a new word: Bogan
Yes finding CX flights on avios/cash upwards is proving tough - one wants to experience the cabana/massage at HKG so this is a must!

HND to Phuket is not exactly round the corner. Phuket can be amazingly beautiful in some parts and exceedingly package in others. All in, I guess you can't go wrong with Phuket as it offers something for every(!) taste.
If you are in HND already, have you considered Okinawa? Easy to reach on JAL and also a tropical paradise (the main stretch leading to the US army base aside).

Phuket is very much geared towards international tourists from literally everywhere in the world. It's not necessarily going to be full of Chav's, Ned's, Bogan's, Beauf's, Prolet's or White Trash. Usually only found in certain sections around the island, Patong infamously.
Jeju is really a domestic destination with a nearly every convention and many exhibitions tasking place on the island and is popular with some countries as it is semi autonomous and does not require visas for nearly every visitor besides DPRK. However a western traveller will get around easily. Jeju is quite a quirky destination but its attractions is the scenery and a large amount of unusual museums.
If you are an AVgeek it is amazing to do the GMP-CJU shuttle and go on the busiest route in the world. The sheer amount of flights going and coming from the island, also taking a 747 which sometimes does this route 55 minute flight full.
Bear in mind there isn't really a OW option. JAL sometimes have codes shares with KE.

Please follow this thread as it moves to the Asia destination forum. To the OP, you may also wish to visit the Thailand and South Korea forums should you have any specific questions relating to Phuket and Jeju.

It will be interesting to see how the current ill mood between ROK and Japan will pan out - it's not being reported at all in the West, but there is a huge standoff with a widespread boycott of Japanese goods by Koreans.
As for Jeju, it is a beautiful island. It is a popular destination for Koreans for honeymoon. The south of the island and the island of U-do has white coral beaches. If you are feeling risque, you could visit love land which is a sex theme park.
Seafood is of course fantastic, but Jeju is also famous for black pork.
