Hi

I am currently planning a family trip to Vietnam in October 2026, still looking for a very nice hotel in Hoi An near / in the old town, any recommendation ?

our criteria: nice hotel with comfy room/bed, quiet, swimming pool, good breakfast, modern, not too Vietnamese

thanks

How near do you want to be to Hoi An? There's all manner of big resort hotels along the coastal road between Hoi An and Da Nang, including all the usual international brands which I assume would not be "too Vietnamese".

At first i looked the Moire Vignette Collection (IHG) just across the bridge to the Old town but even if the interior looks nice, the building and the pool look average and I fear about noises at night.

I found one property that is not too far (anyway using Grab is cheap), less than 10 minutes away from Old town: la Siesta

it's a resort but not too big, as some would take large groups, that i'd like to avoid

If anyone had a recent experience with this hotel, please let me know, thx

I have to ask...what does not too Vietnamese mean?

Apologies for the extremely niche question... :D
I'm flying into DAD (international) and can see that there appears to be a Duty Free on Arrival shop, but I can't find a website that shows specific products or prices. Mainly wondering if wine purchased here is significantly cheaper than buying in town.

Not significantly. Duty Free isn't amazing value in Vietnam relative to other Southeast Asian countries, although, naturally, when buying in town it's important to stick with reputable suppliers. I'd go with Warehouse Wine Merchants. They have a Danang shop on 12 Lê Đình Dương and an unimpeachable reputation, suppling the import-heavy specialty grocery store Annam Gourmet (which surprisingly does not have a Danang branch) and many hotels/restaurants. You can check out the online catalogue on their website here and even pre-order/arrange delivery to your hotel.

Thanks so much! Sounds like great advice and I'm pretty sure, IIRC, that I bought wine at a Warehouse in Hanoi.

Hi
Looking for suggestion about my trip to Vietnam next March
Fly from KUL to HCMC, stay 2 nights
Fly from HCMC to Danang, stay for 2 night
Fly from Danang to Hanoj, first night in Hanoi, 2 nights in Ha long Bay, last night in Hanoi
Fly back to KUL from Hanoi

Is this ok ?
TIA

That is extraordinarily rushed. Whether it is "ok" depends on what you're interested in. Two nights in Halong bay on such a short trip seems way overkill. I would do 0 or 1 night on Halong Bay and spend the extra time in Hanoi. You may also want to cut Danang entirely unless a beach is important to you, in which case id pick between Hanoi and HCMC.

I agree it seems rushed. I'd just focus on Hanoi, but it depends on what the OPs priorities are.

It's rushed but I did something similar. 3 nights Hanoi incl day trip to Halong bay, flew to Hue and then went to see Vinh Moc and back to Hue for 1 night, then 2 nights in Danang incl an evening trip to Hoian. Best meal I had on the trip was in Danang at a live seafood tank restaurant. I don't like the beach but did like all the cultural sites other than Bana Hills (other than how much cooler it was in the mountains).
I flew home via HCMC from Danang, had enough time to see the war museum and get one last bowl of pho. I was alone and used the same tour company of guide + driver everywhere other than at nights and used Grab to get around for dinner or walked.
Definitely rushed but I tend to pack as much into a day as possible.
Only need 1 night at Halong Bay.

Agree with aboves, just focus on HCMC and Hanoi in that amount of time.

Travelingjack04 Jul 8, 2025 9:52 pm

I would cut out either Hanoi or HCMC in favor of Danang/Hoi An.

I am still at the planning step my trip for next year and that's what i actually and currently have in mind.

I am trying to add one more night in Vietnam to my trip and wondering where i could stay a bit longer.

Hanoi: 3N (incl 1 full day @Halong bay)
Hoi An: 3N
HCMC: 3N
Chiang Mai: 3N
Phuket: 4N
Bangkok 4N

as I am spending a little bit more time in Thailand vs Vietnam and that I will be spending on day for round/trip transfer to Halong + cruise, i was thinking of extending the stay in Hanoi or HCMC, I didn't think of 4N in Hoi An

SanDiego1K Jul 9, 2025 1:08 pm

There is no way I would spend 4 nights in Hoi An. It is extremely touristic. I am a fan of Hue which has many cultural sites within a reasonable drive of the city.
