Heading to Hoi An in near future think again

Last Sat Hoi An got caught in massive rains leading to massive flooding. The pics in the papers here (in Vietnam) looked like Houston after Harvey hit, boats were the means of transport., way above knee level

Problem is Hoi An isn't prepared to deal with the likes of what they got hit with as Houston is.

So if Hoi An is in your plans the next week+, you're SOL. If after that Id contact wherever you were gonna stay to make sure they are up and running

Have you been there before? This is a somewhat common occurrence.

Okay. Yeah, this is normal. When you go, you will most likely see photos of past floods that were worse. Some of the old houses that you pay to visit have lines showing how high the floods got in the past. Some places the water was up to the second level of the house.

If there's a typhoon and you're worried about your hotel/guesthouse being flooded, just contact them before arriving.

Why is everyone so surprised to see this flooding in Hoi An - this is typhoon season on the central coast of Vietnam, and this is quite normal for Hoi An in November.

October, November or even December is not really a good time for Central VN (Hoian, Hue and Phong Nha cave).

Well I for 1 didnt know it was typhoon season. Yea I read its the rainy season but didnt know about the typhoons.

Just got back today, and it seems that they were being hot harder this year (Vietnam) then what they usually get, at least according to the papers and news. Another slam is on the way, so they say

I was in Hue on Weds flew into DAD and it was cloudy and alittle misty. Walking back from The Citadel to my hotel, it opened up for apx 20 mins, yet Thurs was a nice day, flew to HAN on Thurs. And Sat night saw the news and Sundays paper. The typhoon hit on Sat.

Didnt get to Hoi An, will do so on my next trip over and will make sure its not during typon season when I do go.

My wife's village just north of Nha Trang was very badly damaged by the typhoon. Worst storm for them in over 20 years apparently.

And, like Hoi An, life goes on until the next series of storms, next year or a decade from now.

Hoi An and storms is like Monty Python and The Holy Grail castle scene.
