Vietnam - Hoi An hotel recommendations
 

Hi, looks like the hotel there are pretty cheap/reasonable - so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Looks to me like the riverfront area seems to have the most to see and do, but the ocean front places obviously have the beaches....which would be preferable?

Everyone raves about An Bang Beach, but I stayed at a wonderful little place on Cam Nam Island (center of town on a small river) called Riverside Impression Homestay

It was really nice and the location is excellent - almost rural and so close to the center of Hoi An. The little pool was so refreshing in the heat of Hoi An.

We stayed at a place called Sun River Hotel along the riverbank about 1km east of the town. It was ok.

The area was a bit deserted at night with only a few places to eat nearby open.
It's within walking distance to town. They also loan out bikes. The challenge of getting back at night was that lack of lighting.

Staying closer a bit closer to town would have been somewhat more convenient but pricing got higher closer to town of course.

I was hesitant to choose a place on the islands south of town but I would consider it for a future trip.

For us, we felt that saying by the ocean was too far from where we wanted to be (near town). We rather go in the opposite direction if needed (stay near town and visit the oceanside).

I visited Hoian one time, I stayed at local people at An Bang Beach which is so beautiful beach in Hoian. I learned a lot of useful and interesting things in there as well as lifestyle of local people.

I think you should spend time in An Bang beach. Blue An Bang Villa, An Bang Hideaway and Seasnails Homestay are high-quality hotels and near An Bang beach.
