SGN Airport Bus

SGN now has some big modern buses that connect the airport to the city center (and vice versa) for 20k VND (around US $1). The two main stops are near Ben Thanh market at the bus station across the roundabout, and at the backpacker area on Pham Ngu Lao street. They won't take you to your hotel, but they will make stops along the route if you ask.

The buses wait in front of the int'l arrivals area, across the first median and to the right. They are yellow and pretty easy to spot. They run every 15 to 20 minutes. They also make a stop at the domestic terminal on the way out if anyone is there waiting.

I've taken them several times to where I leave my motorbike and they are clean, air conditioned, and easy to use. I mention these buses because I know some people have mentioned in other threads being worried about taxis in Saigon. This is an alternative which would take you to within walking distance or within a very short taxi ride (around 5 minutes) of district 1 destinations.

sounds great for people that know where they're going. Thanks for the report.

For comparison, it costs $10 to take a taxi. We found a taxi stand within the baggage claim area of the domestic terminal and after immigration/customs in the international terminal. It's remarkably affordable for door to door transportation. Obviously for those on a budget, $1 is less than $10.

You are correct, the taxis are plentiful and cheap. For taxis go outside of arrivals and head left. For buses go outside and head right and across the first median. I'm sure almost everyone will take the taxi from the airport. I know when I was a tourist here the first few times I did as well.

But as I mentioned, this was not about cost as much as the fact that I've seen multiple comments, both here and on other sites, about people being afraid of taxi drivers ripping them off, taking the long way, etc. This was just providing an alternative option if you're uncomfortable with the taxis.

I just took it. There are no good signs stating where you can get picked up, if you are going to the airport. I do not feel a real difference between bus 152 versus 109 (new yellow bus), and bus 152 is cheaper 10-15,000.
But the hours of 109 are better, supposedly 530 to 130am
