I’d say Sofitel is more central than Belmond, and Belmond feels a bit more coved in. Physically they aren’t too far apart but I’d say the smallest distance makes a great difference in Luang Prabang if you intend to walk around (particularly in the stinging heat of the summer). Also, there aren’t really taxis in the traditional sense, so any motorised transport are easiest organised through your hotel.
