Side trip from Singapore
 
I visit SIN from time and time. I am interested in side trips in the region, say 4 days. My interests are more in the historical/temple/sightseeing end of things rather than hiking/swimming etc.

I've been in KL, Melaka, BKK, Siem Reap and most recently in Yogyakarta for Prambanan etc. Vietnam is an obvious one, although you might need more time to see some of the country. All other ideas welcome.

How about Kuching on Sarawak ? Only an hours flight from SIN. It may not be big on the criteria you mention but it does have a couple of interesting museums. And a nearby Orangutang sanctuary, limestone caves etc.
