KUL Hotel Thoughts

Overnighting Jan 1 in Kuala Lumpur arr 3 or so with a 9:30 am to HKG.
Should we stay close to the airport and any thoughts on where.
Concorde Inn at the Airport doesn't look bad....right now.
We will be spending the afternoon/eve in town around the market.
Thanks in advance.

I would stay downtown and just get up early enough to get to the airport. The central train station where you catch the KLIA Express train has 2 hotels very close by, a Hilton and a Le Meridien. Check out at 7, walk over to the station and you should be at KLIA by 8 easily.

I just booked a trip to KL myself for November.

So am I to understand that visitors take the KLIA in from the airport, then a taxi onwards to their hotel?

I'm trying to choose between the Crowne Plaza Mutiara & Traders, BTW -- if I'm not hijacking this thread (and apologies if I am) your pick of the two would be most appreciated. :)

Thanks BA.
It definately makes more sense, as we want to be downtown anyway.
You're not hijacking, acurrie.
It's hard to know when you've never been in a place before.
I know where I like to stay in BKK, NRT and other places.
And, when will I ever learn to spell definately?

Yes, that's always the way I've done it, take the train in from KLIA or the bus in from LCCT to KL Sentral and from there go to the budget taxi desk and you pay a fixed rate to wherever you are going.

Never stayed in the Traders but the Crowne Plaza is one of my favorite hotels. Book a club room if your budget stretches that far. ^

My pleasure. :) One thing I should clarify, KL Sentral is not downtown but is not that far away and cabs are cheap though it can be difficult to get them to use the meter sometimes. See the thread on just that subject in this forum. So if you want to stay near KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) or Bukit Bintang, be sure to leave some time for the cab ride back to KL Sentral.

Here's a map:

It's a bit of a dump and will look much worse once you actually arrive :td:

I always recommend the KL Hilton or Meridien at KL Sentral: they're far superior as hotels, usually quite reasonably priced, and much closer to the city. Above all, it's half an hour to the airport by train, which is probably actually faster than the Concorde's dinky and unreliable shuttle bus.

A club room at Traders in KL was one of the best value-for-money rooms I have stayed at in Asia. I highly recommend it (make sure the room faces the Petronis Towers).

At first I thought you were coming in at 3am, and I thought, "No, no, don't, you'll get to your hotel and end up having to turn around immediately!" :D

Thanks all for the info. Hilton won out.

I once checked into the Hilton at Buenos Aires at 7am after an overnight flight, showered and changed, when down from breakfast and then checked out at abut 9:30am for my 10am meeting! Hotel was near the office at least.

It does happen!
