ATMs at TPE

Anyone know if they have a HSBC ATM @ Taipei International Airport? I think I'm arriving T1 - Cathay pacific.

Or how are the rates exchanging cash at the airport? Much worse than the city?

As far as I know, there is no HSBC ATM in the airport. Using bank counter to get Taiwan Dollar is reasonable in terms of fee and rate.
If you are going to Taipei, there are quite a few HSBC ATM and branch there.

There are, however, ATMs in which you can use an HSBC card to get cash. IME that almost always gets a better rate than changing notes.

As for cities, I find the Chinatrust machines inside some 7-ELEVENS give the least trouble.

(By trouble I mean just not working or suddenly switching into Chinese despite English having been selected etc).

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to find a HSBC ATM in the city but don't know if that'll happen. Guess I'll exchange some cash at the airport in the meanwhle.

Changing money at the airport is the worst possible thing you can do.
Your HSBC card will work at other ATMs if it has the "Cirrus", etc, logos.
Finding a HSBC bank in Taipei is not the easiest thing to do.

I find that the ChinaTrust machines are very good and available at most 7-Eleven stores...
the downside is that they charge 100NT per transaction...

Weird... they've never charged me! (Using UK mastercard and visa cards...) I've used them numerous times and sometimes made small withdrawals so would have noticed if it was hidden in the exchange rate.

My US-issued ATM card is charged 100NT at ChinaTrust ATMs in ALL 7-Elevens... the screen always ask, "you will be charged 100NT transaction fee, do you want to continue?" (i get refunded the charges so it really doesn't "affect" me too much, but still)

no charge at any other ATMs in Taiwan (hotel ATMs, regular bank ATMs, etc.)

No, certainly don't get that. It must be the card type that's triggering it. I don't think any ATM has charged me in Taiwan, but I quickly found that some types never seem to work with my card or are difficult to use if you don't read Chinese.
