Dulce de leche flavours?

I always thought dulce de leche was only caramelised milk and caramelised milk only until I went to a national grocery chain that is importing dulce de leche with bananas (as well as the regular stuff). Just wondering if there are any other flavours in Argentina?

They sold the banana flavour one in the UK - disgusting stuff. Have to say my wife thought it very unusual as well.

No sign of it here though, just the ordinary stuff.

These 'variations' of DDL are rare and quite new to the market.... you dont mess with DDL in Argentina, to most its considered a big no-no to do so. Still, aside from the Banana variation there is a Coconut version that is out there, although you have to dig to find it. Coconut shavings on DDL actually work well, but if you ask me that combination should be crafted by a Pastry Chef and not by some industrial kitchen that makes the stuff ready to eat...

From Tesco by any chance? It's sold through the chain owned by the family (Weston) that owns Tesco.

I found it a pretty good substitute for a banana jam that came out of France that was once sold by Williams Sonoma (not Bonne Maman - think it came from Auvergne). Not bad at all, certainly not artificial in taste. Like DdL with a splash of banana (which is up there on the ingredient list after milk and sugar).

It was indeed from Tesco.

My wife couldn't believe her eyes when she saw Dulce de Leche on the Tesco shelf so she bought the lot - good quality stuff as well.
A while later they re-stocked but with the banana one instead - thankfully she only bought the one.

Alex, maybe you can tell me where my DdLs (a Loblaws private label brand) come from.

Both (banana and traditional) have the same RN and SENASA numbers so presumably from the same company? 21-049379 and S-I-04077 with RNPA numbers of 0250002 and 0250004. The last time I checked, I seem to recall the numbers were the same as the blue labeled DdL manufacturer.

Dulce de Leche with coconut should be a great combination.
It is like Flan de coco.

I guess a swirl of chocolate would go nice with dulce de leche and a hazelnut cream would also go nicely with dulce de leche.

I agree that the combos should be done by a chef or yourself at home and not placed in a jar.

The equivalent in the US would be peanut butter. It goes with lots of stuff but when they mix it with jelly in the jar it is disgusting.

My guess is that the producer is San Ignacio.

Had the banana DdL 2x yesterday with home-made crepes. Still think the one I bought is wonderful and not artificial/chemically at all.
