Buying Flights in Argentina

I've heard that flights are half price if you buy them in Peso's. However you can't buy them online if your CC is not from an Argentina bank. Does anyone know if I can buy the flight with cash when I get to Argentina in November for the cheaper price, or should I just buy the flight now at a higher price. The flight I am looking for is from B.A. to Mendoza.

To get the cheaper prices you need to be argentinian resident. There's a lengthy thread in this forum dicussing it (which you could easily find if the FT search function wasn't so damn broken :))

Here's the master thread on this subject:

A condition of the cheaper resident fares is that you are an Argentine resident and you may be asked to prove this when checking in. If you can't, you forfeit the ticket and will not be able to fly unless you buy a walk-up fare. Some non-resident FTers have reported using these fares without problems but if you go down this route, you need to be aware of the risks.

To be honest I've never really seen much evidence of these "bargain" resident fares whenever I've checked online prices. Some are slightly cheaper but not massively so.

Maybe I'm missing something?

It depends on what season you are shopping fares for.... sometimes, resident deals are there, else the differences are not always that great.

BTW, the fare differences are not because there are "Peso" fares.... airfares are de-facto dollarized, no matter in which currency they are quoted in.

Just booked a residents' fare on LAN from Bs As to Menodoza for the end of August. Cost was $449 pesos per person (about USD118). On LAN's US site, the same flights are showing as USD278. That's a big difference.

Great buy and makes me look a right kipper regarding the not much difference in price post. :o

Out of interest britenbsas - will it earn you any miles?

Oooh - kippers. That brings back memories! Can you get them here?

Yes, for crediting to AAdvantage, the fare earns 25% RDMs/EQMs - I'll actually get the 500 mile minimum per flight. 1000 miles closer to the first million :D

Unfortunately I very much doubt it.
I meant to have a look in the UK recently about buying a small trout smoker but forgot all about it....typical.
I was thinking about trying to smoke some merlusa or whatever. I'll see if there is a way to build one.

Of course, and I make the best fish n chips this side of the Atlantic - beer batter is the secret. ;)

Gaucho100K - can you not get rid of all that mumbo jumbo nonsense that comes above all your posts? Very annoying it is you know.
