Daylight Saving Time begins Sat Oct 18, 2008 *UPDATE**UPDATE*
Clocks will be advanced one hour at midnight Saturday October 18 (0:00 hrs Sunday morning). Standard Time will resume on Saturday March 14, 2009 at midnight.
**Neuquén, Mendoza, San Luis, Salta, San Juan, La Rioja, La Pampa, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego and Catamarca provinces won't change.
The time change was officially gazetted Oct. 16, less than 3 days before the change ... and then modified AGAIN on Oct. 17. ¡Qué quilombo! **

Why the K administration wants to repeat this failed experiment that caused increased energy consumption last summer is beyond me.

No, I'm not getting enough attention!
I actually posted the update since DST only became "official" today (except that some of the provinces don't appear to have decided yet), the airline schedules (at least on UA), haven't been updated as yet.
For anybody traveling in the next few days and with a domestic flight within Argentina, they'll probably need to check for the changed departure/arrival times of their flights.

It's funny I came across this thread because I was SURE the flight times between BA and Mendoza were wrong. They were only explicable with a time zone change between the two.
Now I understand. I'm sure others will be confused, too.

Indeed.... Mendoza now has a one hour difference to Buenos Aires.... I think also San Luis has adopted the same time zone.

So how do the locals like DST?
I understand that it's been tried before in Argentina. Funny, I don't remember ever coming across it in the past 20 years (and I usually visit in November) but maybe I missed those years.
From a tourist perspective, I think it's a good thing. Since we "can't" eat dinner until, oh, 8:30, 9 pm in BA, it gives us an extra hour of daylight to walk around the parks, etc.
Besides, under the old system, it got light in BA this time of year around 5 am. That's a complete waste in a late night city like BA -- except perhaps to those "clubbing" who could head home in daylight!
