Actually, cost is only an issue if you want the wine shipped back to the USA... else, its quite easy actually. All you need to do is find a retailer you trust and ask them to pack the wine properly (so as to not be troubled by the airlines) and then check the wine as luggage. US customs is very lenient with wine.... just declare what you have and you will be fine... ^

My thoughts were that the manner in which he traveled, he went "overweight" on luggage, and as you know LAN has very tight luggage allowances, especially on domestic flights (1 20kg bag), which would have made the flight back to SCL expensive, and if he had another domestic separate ticket in the US, more $.

Ah... yes, in that case I agree that the extra bag or additional weight are indeed prohibitive. Those LAN check-in Matrons do throw the book at you... :td:
Another time. :) |
Yes... heavy bottles of wine and backpacking dont work well together... :D

Ah, but the return can be worth it - I carried a bottle of Glenfidich up the Inca trail in Peru 20 years ago. Sitting at the 1st campsite in the drizzling rain sharing a wee dram with some wandering shepherds was how I spent my 26th birthday.

I am non-reving in on June 16th with a family of six. Can anyone advise if my $140 x 6 has to be paid in cash, or can I use a credit card?

John So, if they do charge your CC in pesos, it may be prudent to try and bring cash if at all possible so you don't get hit w/ the fee .... Drek |
