Please suggestions: nice day trips from BA?

Would you suggest nice day trips --not too far--from BA? How to get there and what to do?

One I like to do every once in a while is a day trip to Tigre, north of Buenos Aires.
There's the fruit market, though it's not only fruit they sell but all kind of handicrafts, you can walk along the riverside, enjoy the view and have lunch in one of the many restaurants, and take a boat for a short ride around.
There's even an amusement park, and a casino.
If you want more privacy, you can spend the day relaxing in one of the many islands, they're like resorts with all kind of facilites.
To get to Tigre, you can catch the Mitre train at Retiro. Or, if you're more adventurous, the 60 bus. :)

Why not a day or even 1 night at an Estancia?

It is a great place to visit and you might consider an overnight stay.

A visit to the Iguazu falls is also another option for a 1 night trip from EZE.

The delta is amazing! Its like Venice in South America. Take a water taxi ride around the water ways look at the school on the water, the old english rowing sheds and plenty more to see.

Thank you--it does seem like a nice place. Do you know if one could take train or bus from BA?

Sorry to rain on the parade... but I think its pertinent to manage expectations. I agree that the Delta del Tigre is a nice visit... but comparing it to Venice is... while very kind, a somewhat unrealistic proposition.

Ok well maybe its not as grand as Venice. But its a fantastic way to spend a day.

Take the train to El tigre. It leaves from Retiro Station and is less than an hour. The cruise is OK, but there wasn't any wildlife when we took it is August. Lot's of nice houses & scenery.

Also, a day trip to Colonia on the Buquebus is another option. I spent a day & would gladly make it an overnight trip next time.

Thank you Bob.
Have done Colonia -interesting --but it was 20 F higher and much more humid than BA.

On a side note.... how do those that have been to Colonia & Montevideo compare both destinations... which one would you suggest doing if you have only one day?

jimmac Oct 16, 2008 12:09 pm

I have taken a day trip to Colonia and an overnight trip to Montevideo. There's no comparison....Colonia is a pleasant, relaxing day out with short fast ferry trips back and forth and it's an interesting and small place to visit and stroll around. Montevideo is 3 hours each way on a fast ferry so it's a long way for a day. More important, there's nothing very attractive about Montevideo. BA is far more interesting than Montevideo so I'd rather stay there for the day.

The other one night trip we took on our last trip which could also be a one day trip is to drive to San Antonio de Areco. I recommend a one night stay at an estancia near San Antonio de Areco. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
