Mail to Argentina
 

¿How reliable is traditional mail service to a regular business address in Buenos Aires? Speed isn't a big issue, but arrival eventually is. (This is just paper, not a package or anything.)

Regular first class mail is highly unreliable. I've had it take 3 weeks to travel from California to BsAs. I've used Express Mail and Priority Mail flat rate envelopes successfully - at worst only taking twice the estimated delivery time.

The flat rate envelopes look more "official", and hence probably won't be ripped open by aduana. Express Mail has tracking, so that's also a help.

I've never had any inbound international mail go missing but if it's not sent registered it can take FOREVER! The record so far is 2.5 months to receive something posted in the UK! Be sure to send it registered with a tracking number. That way it will get an Argentine tracking # upon arrival in Argentina and will be delivered much more quickly. And the aduana won't have any interest in printed material so no worries there.

For outbound mail, Ive had decent service using OCA - cheaper than FedEx.

If they have to arrive, use Fedex or UPS or TNT or anything but regular mail. Much more important if the "paperwork" involve monetary numbers or any kind of confidential value.

I sent it UPS. A small fortune for 10 sheets of paper, but they made it.
