AA cancels EZE-ORD

Not surprising -- it seemed like a marginal route. In the brief time it lasted, it was a great "emergency option" for redeeming standard award tickets. I never had to use it, but I noticed it was the easiest AA EZE route to get tickets on.

Oh, well. Many long haul routes are getting cancelled these days due to the crazy fuel prices. US cancelled their new PHL-Beijing flight before it launched because the annual fuel bill was going to be $90 million. So you can get a sense as to how much dinero we're talking about.

I suspect all non-MIA US routes to EZE are vulnerable if oil doesn't start to pull back.

Hmmm... how is AA doing with its DFW routes...??? Also, I assume loads on the JFK flights are still healthy, or?

Eastbay1K May 28, 2008 11:39 am

I'd expect LAN to start cherry picking new cities when they see the right opportunity and have available aircraft (the 787 delay is going to tighten things up for them).

As much as it pains me to say this... Ive dumped my AR frequent flyer card and joined LanPass... I even have two mileage earning credit cards for Lan. Lan is the only choice for regional travel... and its the best international carrier from Argentina to the US (even if you go through SAN).

From what I gather both DL and CO have very healthy returns on their ATL-EZE and EWR-IAH-EZE routes so would not expect those to be canceled.

And I have been flying LAN since they first entered the Argentine domestic market and then began flying the EZE-MIA route when it was established in August 2006. I find them to be a great airline, very dependable and overall good service. Wish they still offered the $650 RT :D

Surely you mean SCL, not SAN. I know, picky, picky.

It pains him to say very much about the other side of the cordillera, even if he occasionally on very rare occasion says that there was "once this one excellent bottle of wine" that came out of Chile.

But seriously, Lan is the best thing going in and to/from South America, even though it has its own set of imperfections. I've been temped to join Lanpass but so far, keep my Lan earn/burn with AS. Maybe my paltry holdings with LFL will go up if AA and others keep chopping their routes.

Too bad, as I live in San Diego, and I would LOVE a direct flight to BA from here.

He.... hmmmm... well, Chile has better white wines than Argentina, with more excellent whites than Argentina. But in the red wine department... Chile cant compete with the depth & variety that Argentina can offer. Yes, they do have a few excellent reds but in this department they do take second fiddle to the right side of the Andes.

But, but, when the norteamericanos look down on South America, Argentina seems to be on the left ... I was also raised with the South Pole on top anyway.

Nonsense..... it only matters where which country is where when you look at a map.... and in any proper map, its very clear what is on the right side and what is on the wrong side of the Andes...

Them's fightin' words!

I like the reds from both sides of the Andes (sometimes I like them too much:o) but I have to admit I'm partial to those from the left side, especially the ones from the Colchagua valley.

Sorry, off-topic post...

Sorry, off-topic post...

I will make sure to drink vinos from both sides during my next two flights (EZE/SCL/LAX). Lan now feels compelled to have one Malbec on the wine menu. But to keep this post OT, there was just someone kvetchy about his AA seat assignment on EZE/ORD at the AC. He should be happy he's on a nonstop altogether.

AA in fact is planning on increasing their flights out of JFK

flyr16 Jun 18, 2008 9:19 pm

It seems both American and Delta are adding NYC-EZE flights. :) :)

**************

American Airlines, Delta to add flights from New York to Buenos Aires

Wednesday, June 18, 2008
American Airlines Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc. have won government approval to add flights from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The U.S. Department of Transportation OK'd Delta’s application to launch service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Buenos Aires with five flights a week during the peak December-April season and four flights a week in other months.

American was granted the right to add five flights a week to the single daily flight it now operates between the two cities.

Sorry as I will be to see EZE-ORD disappear, it's no great surprise. On my ORD-EZE flight last week there were 110 passengers on board, less than 50% capacity. A shame as I was planning on flying via ORD for future trips to NYC as it's far easier to score an upgrade than on the direct flight. Oh well :(

nytango Jul 5, 2008 7:30 am

looks official In addition to adding a flight dfw - eze
AA has added a second JFK-EZE a 763, flights 993-994 starting Nov 6 looks like 4-5 times a week and probably seasonal. this in addition to 955 and 956

So despite fears an d speculation of some AA is not cutting EZE service.

Panam Clipper Jul 5, 2008 3:40 pm

Where was there 'fear and speculation'? The OP stated that AA was eliminating the EZE-ORD flights. That is a fact - not speculation. DL and AA are adding flights from JFK and that is a positive fact.
