EZE Ground Transportation

I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere, but I could not find it in this forum. I wanted to ask if an American woman would be generally safe taking a taxi from EZE to a hotel on Florida? Also, should the fare be about USD $35? Are taxis metered or are you supposed to negotiate the fare before leaving? Thank you in advance for any advice!

YVR Cockroach Feb 13, 2008 10:34 am

It's been recommended in the past that visitors have taxis called instead of hailing them off the street.

At any rate, you may consider taking the Manuel Tienda Leon remise (used to be after you exit the customs area but before you emerge into the meet 'n greet area) which is a private car operated by a large transportation company. MTL also operates a shuttle bus to the city if you want to save a bit (ARS 35 vs. ARS 105).

The roach from YVR :D is giving you excellent advice. While you could just use an authorized EZE taxi, the latest reports Ive read say that many of these cars are old and may not have A/C - so I think that using the private car (Remise) transfer from Manuel Tienda Leon is an excellent option. Prices are posted all over the place so you will have no issues with being overcharged.

Have a great trip !!!

Great - thank you very much for the advice!

Dont forget to change your USDs at the Banco Nacion which is right outside the customs area and not with the crooks that have a flimsy booth in the baggage claim area.

The normal Taxi Ezeiza now charge 78 pesos from the airport, or 60 peso to the airport. About $25 US. You can always ask for a newer car, if the older ones bother you. I miss the old 50 peso to the city rate. :(

last year i used a shuttle bus service...i think it was $11 u.s. they drop you right at your hotel, you do have to transfer to a van after the bus gets into the city....but there are lots of people around you, so you are never really alone. good idea for a woman. the equipment was not a problem.
there is a both near the information stand outside of customs. they are pretty knowledgeable too.
have a great trip.

if you want some distraction, you can take the day trip or weekender on the ferry over to COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO in uruaguay...lovely little tourist city. there are a number of nice hotels. i found the city safe and just a lovely and peaceful place.

As the others have said, a private car is probably the best options. Immediately after you pass through customs there are booths for several car companies where you can pay in advance and then someone will help carry your luggage out to the car. The prices as are others have said, and as a woman traveling alone, you shouldn't worry taking one of these cars.

Wirelessly posted (Palm TX: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D050; Blazer/4.3) 16;320x320)

Also, dont accept the car services offered to you by the guys standing outside the meet n' greet area. Even if they look legit and have an ID card or tag on their shirt/coat, stick with the services offered at the established booths.

Are there ATMs in the airport?

Yes. There's an ATM to the left. After you exit customs.

Gaucho100K Feb 19, 2008 3:17 am

If your ATM card doesnt give you the amount of pesos you need, then use the Banco Nacion to exchange a few dollars.

Thanks i'mlovin'it and Gaucho100K for the prompt replies. ^

We're going to be traveling for a little over a month so this information is very useful, since I'd prefer to use the ATM card and not to have to estimate and carry all the cash I might need to convert for our time in Argentina.

Cheers,
Fredd

Fredd... in this case, I suggest you bring a reasonable amount of USDs (cash) and exchange them at the Bank... and then continue with your ATM card.

Thanks again Gaucho100K. ^

As you can understand, I don't like to carry a lot of cash but based on your advice I'll stop at the bank on the way out of town and pick up a few hundred dollars over and above what we're planning to carry for "contingencies" to exchange at the Banco de Nation.

I've now read your earlier thread about the "other guys" as well so I think we're more prepared for exchanging currency than we would have been otherwise.

Cheers,
Fredd

When getting cash, try to always get some small demoniations. Many taxis, stores, etc. will not or can not cash 100 peso notes ($33). I always try to pay with a bit more than the price so I can get small notes/coins -- ie. buy a 4 peso item with a 10 peso coin and get 6 back. So if at a bank, etc., try to get ten 10 pesos vs. one 100.

Also you can usually use a credit card at most restaurants, stores, etc -- which may be a bit more expensive with fees, but easier and conserves your cash when you start to run low.

A lot of folks seem to like Dante (click here) for airport transfers. We plan on trying him out in August, so I can't give you a first hand recommendation.

He charges $25 which is a bit cheaper than the airport prices for cabs (and IIRC slightly higher than a the price of hailing a cab downtown), but you would have someone specific (and reputable) picking you up who speaks English.

Edited to add: He rocks. I'd recommend him without hesitation.

SAT Lawyer Aug 30, 2008 7:28 pm

On my return to EZE from the Microcenter area, if I take a taxi, will I be charged a flat rate or a metered rate? From what I have read it doesn't sound like the taxi on the return is much more expensive that the Manuel Tienda Leon bus plus a taxi to the bus station. Is there any particular taxi service I should call?

VPescado Aug 30, 2008 7:37 pm

Generally Taxi Drivers will quote you a flat rate. Feel free to bargain them down a bit, the initial price is usually a bit soft. And based on the handful of cabbies that ask if i need a ride to the airport in my random contact with them, it seems like they view it as a very desirable fare to get.

I did use Dante for my transfer from EZE (see above). He charges USD25 in either direction and I was favorably impressed. He was where he said that he would be. He speaks excellent English and is a good conversationalist - and he is funny. He also waited with me at my apartment until the agent showed up to meet me with the key - I appreciated that . . .although everything was fine I feel like he would have made sure that I wasn't left wandering the streets with my luggage.
