Colon Theater re-opening delayed

Local news is reporting that the masterplan renovation of the Teatro Colon is behind schedule, and the re-opening will not make the deadline of early 2008 that was to match the celebrations of the Centennial of Buenos Aires.

It now appears that the theater will only re-open in late 2008. I will post further updates as I receive more information.

Are there any sort of tours of the theater being done during the renovation? Or is it completely closed?

A couple of month ago:
-no performance, but they did tours. BTW, they are interesting.

Do you remember who to contact to arrange for the tour? Is there a website? Or should I just wait and have my hotel concierge arrange it?

Unfortunately the website says:

"Las visitas guiadas se encuentran suspendidas por los trabajos de restauración y actualización tecnológica que se están realizando en el Teatro."

Which according to babelfish means that the guided tours are suspended. :(

I suppose now I'll have an excuse to return though.

When I was there, no performance, but tours .. that might have changed now. Still, I would call and ask (when in BA)

As far as I know the tours have also been suspended... but it never hurts to ask.

Hey there,

Have you received any further update on the re-opening of the Teatro Colon? I reached out to the press contact email address as listed on the website, but have yet to receive a response. Any direction you can give on this would be most appreciated. I work for ShermansTravel (www.shermanstravel.com), and for our magazine (Sherman's Travel magazine) we actually wanted to do a short piece on the reopening of the theatre, for our Spring issue, but if it's going to be delayed until the end of 2008, that poses somewhat of a timing issue.

Please provide any updates you may have as well as any contact names I may be able to turn to for further advice/direction.

Thanks in advance. If you can address this ASAP, that would be great.

Are there any new updates on the re-opening date of the Teatro Colon? I sent an email through the website but received no response. I work for a travel magazine, and we were interested in doing a short write-up on the re-opening, to coincide with our Spring issue, but if the renovation will not be done until the end of 2008, the timing will be totally off. If someone could give me any kind of local news update QUICKLY, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much! And any direct contacts that you may know of, that may be able to directly address my questions, would also be amazing. Thanks!

As far as I know, the re-opening date is still going to be in late 2008 so Im not sure this timing will work for your needs. Considering you are a journalist, I suggest you try to contact the Press Office of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, they should be able to give you the official word.

Did you send just one email, or three? :)

In all seriousness, welcome to FT!

A couple of days ago I was told that it will open in May 2008.
... and I was wrong: NO tours during the renovation.
