Argentinian beer
All I can say is WOW. I know that AR tends to be known more for the wines (and some very nice Malbecs, mind you), but as a beer drinker, I was pleasently surprised by the variety of very good Argentine beers I found on my first trip 'down South'. While the Quilmes brand offered quite a few tasty, although not spectacular brews, further down south, around Ushuaia, I hit the jackpot with the Beagle stouts and IPAs. I give them 3 thumbs up...^^^
(By the way, what is up with the hissing busses in Buenos Aires?) |

Another good boutique beer brand to look out for is Otro Mundo... ^

I agree Argentina produces not only fantastic beef, wine and women but their beer is fantastic as well. I think its time I go back ;)

I'm a big fan of the Barbaroja line of artesanal beers, especially their red pale ale... http://www.saltshaker.net/20050901/redbeard

Cape Horn (another Ushuaia brewer) has a good set of craft beers too, including a very refreshing Pils. If I were to ever move to Argentina, it would have to be to Ushuaia. The cool atmosphere, good beer, beautiful mountain views, plus the wonderful smell of the wood smoke and slow cooking fuegian lamb hooked me.
I did try some beers from a craft brewer in El Bolson, but two of their products really turned me off. One was a too hot to drink pepper infused beer, and the other was an olive infused beer that was just nasty. |
Quilmes makes a "limited" production beer called Patagonia which is also worth a try.

Another brand to check out is Imperial, also by Quilmes. This is a re-launch of their Quilmes Imperial "premium" beer which they now have spun-off as an independent brand of the Quilmes portfolio.
