Four nights in BA
Amazing and overwhelming thread.
Thanks Gaucho for your help in choosing a hotel. I'm about to go to a local wine store with your list of recommended Malbec's por una fiesta de cumpleano at my house on 1/20. I'll only have 4 nights in BA,and then on to Uruguay. Any help in choosing THE 4 places to have dinner. I'll be there 2/2-2/6. Las Lilas and Parilla 1880 and Nectarine seem to stand out, but I can't help but get the feeling that many think Las Lilas is not worth its reputation. Any help will be appreciated. Is there any where decent to eat near EZE. I think I will have a 5 hr layover on my way home from MVD, which doesn't seem quite enough to go into the city and handle the whole airport check in/secuity/passport scene. If I leave the airport, I think I should stay close. It also happens to be Ash Wednesday. Don't know if that will make any difference in what's open? Thanks to any and all, and especially to Gaucho/Alejandro for all of the time he obviously puts into this. And boy am I glad I read a lot before all of the other info disappeared. Where did it go? Thanks. GRF in DC (where it is currently 5 C ) |
I had dinner at La Bourgogne (?) at the Alvear Palace Hotel. It is up there with any fancy french restaurant in Paris or USA. Service is impecable. somewhat pricey for Argentina but excellent food. Try the isla flotante for dessert.
as Julia Child would have said.... bon apetite. |
For a 5 hour layover, I'd personally take a cab downtown to spend an hour or two to meet & eat and then head back to the airport.
Is this the thread http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310939 you are looking for too? It's still here but FT defaults (unless you select some changes) to display threads that have only more recently been active. (That thread hasn't been active for more than two weeks, so short of doing a search or adjusting display options, it can be hard to find.) |
I would forget about Cabaņa Las Lilas, but then again Im very much a local carnivore so dont take my advice too seriously on this issue.... if you are looking for a US type steakhouse, Las Lilas is what you are looking for. For a more less US style experience, maybe La Cabrera or La Brigada are better options.
If you are up for an Italian Trattoria style meal, I suggest you check out Eh Santino, which is in Las Caņitas (Palermo). Large portions, great home cooking (its a family business), plus its a happening place located in an area with tons of other bars & restaurants... For your 5 hour layover, I agree with the above advice... if you arrive on time in your inbound segment, by all means hop on a car and get into town, maybe go to Puerto Madero and grab a bite, and head back... OK, you wont have 3 hours to have a relaxed meal but 90 minutes in town for a good meal is still going to be far better than sitting around in EZE. Thanks for the kind words on the threads, its a pleasure for me to be able to help folks visiting EZE and Argentina in general. However, please note that I dont deserve more than a fraction of the credit, folks like GUWonder and many other seasoned EZE veterans provide the insight of the frecuent visitor that I as more of a local sometimes miss out on. |

Aw, go on Gaucho, you do deserve lots of credit here. You've been a one-man tourism bureau for the city, and your advice has held many of us in good stead when we knew precious little about your city. Rita PS, GUWonder is a wonder as well, for sure. Indeed GUWonder is basically a co-author of these threads, he/she also provides the all important non-local view & perspective that I cannot provide, as Im probably partial to many things in this city & country and may not be as sensitive to issues that are of importance to foreign visitors.

SoFlyOn and EastBay1K must also be mentioned for their excellent contributions to the Argentina fora.
