Much appreciated.

Don Mario (palmares location) is good for meat..
Most wineries have a nice tasting menu for lunch that requires some planning. Several others for fine dining in Mendoza City proper, however I’m unsure what you’re seeking. Where are you staying, how long are you gonna be there for, are you doing in winery visits.. likes? Dislikes?

Thanks. We will be at Sheraton Mendoza for a week. We have booked lunch at Trapiche and Renacer. Also one dinner at Diplomatic Hotel. We enjoy a variety of ethnic foods, although we don’t want to have a huge meal every day. The menus at the two wineries looked very appealing We will check out Don Mario.

As posted above (and I have also said this ad-nauseum) - for Wine Tours in Mendoza, MIGUEZ SANZ is the best choice you can make. Please feel free to PM me and I will provide you with his contact information.

Cheers,

In an effort to keep things informative and transparent here is an article about Miguel Sanz. At the end there’s a link to his direct email as well https://www.malbecsonly.com/?p=608

I did get a chuckle about the latter part of your comment... not sure I understand what you meant.

The article (I did not read it in full) is a few years old, but Miguel is still 100% in the game and is hands-down the best option for a private driver & guide in Mendoza. He is able to open just about any door in Mendoza, so you cannot go wrong with him. If he is already booked on the dates you need him, he has a network of colleagues that have a similar modus-operandi and will be able to take care of you. Do reach out to him.

Cheers !!

We're looking at planning a trip to Mendoza during the weekend of September 24.

It looks like the Park Hyatt is booked that Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, aside from some ridiculously priced suites. How's the Sheraton in town? Any other hotel recommendations for Mendoza?

The Sheraton was perfectly ok - it has been several years since I've been so I can't speak for the current state of affairs. Prior to that, I stayed at the NH, which was another perfectly ok, in a very good location. These are no substitutes for the Park Hyatt, but if you want clean, comfortable enough, and safe locations, you might consider either.

Excellent, thank you. Sheratons are always very hit-or-miss and so it's good to hear that this one was halfway decent, even if the data point is a little old. Seems to confirm the overall sentiment on Tripadvisor.

I've booked there and will move to the Hyatt if something opens up. Also, kudos to everyone here who recommended Miguel Sanz for wine touring around Mendoza - he's been very responsive and we've got three days of touring set up, one for each of the wine regions around Mendoza. Really looking forward to it!

Depending if you’re looking on using points or status upgrades. I would clearly pick the Hyatt over the Sheraton, As I’m just not a fan of the area surrounding the Sheraton (Personal choice)

The Hyatt is better situated, the breakfast is pretty good but gets boring after a few days and suite upgrades are obtainable They tend to be a convention type hotel so somethings probably going on a dates that you’re interested

Since you have a driver and you going be in wine country most of the time. I personally like the diplomatic over the Sheraton

Enjoy your stay! Curious to know what wineries you have selected with Miguel

Oh, status is actually why I prefer the Hyatt over Sheraton. I've got nothing with Bonvoy but have Explorist with Hyatt, and the points rate at the Park Hyatt is an excellent value. I agree with you on the location as well. The Diplomatic unfortunately is also booked, which is what made me suspicious about a possible event in town. I think I'd prefer something in the city versus getting something outside.

My wife and I are letting Miguel pick everything. I gave him a rundown of what we like and what we don't like - while I know Washington wine really well, I know nothing about options in Mendoza. I'll be sure to share our thoughts post-trip!

Not to go off topic but Washington State Wines are fantastic!

I think I found what you were looking for: https://www.allconferencealert.com/e...nergy-(icmmre)

Unfortunately when there’s a big conference in town many places get booked up

I think there’s gonna be pressure on a lot of the restaurants etc. Are you locked into that weekend?

Guess where the conference venue is? The diplomatic

This is great, thank you for finding this. Yeah, we're locked in unfortunately for a variety of reasons, not just the flights we booked. Given that we are going to be in the vineyards during the day, I am okay with this, although yeah it might create problems at dinner time if the conference isn't providing food or having social activities as part of their schedule.

It makes me hopeful though that availability might open up if they have a block of rooms reserved that go unfilled. We'll see.

The lunches go a long way at the wineries they’re typically 3/4/5 course affairs with Wine. Think extremely high-end gourmet dining. The chefs are extremely creative. To be quite honest there’s only a handful of places worth visiting in Mendoza City for dinner. I’m assuming Miguel will be establishing those lunch reservations for you each day, if not you should inquire. The fashionable dinner hours are around 9 PM

Just an update, standard king rooms opened up at the Hyatt that weekend, at the exorbitant rate of $520 USD/night. Thankfully standard 12,000 point/night awards were available, so I just booked using points. I'm really happy to be over there instead of at the Sheraton.

This is one reason why I like Chase a lot - this was a great use of ultimate reward points, even if the Hyatt is more like a Regency instead of a Park Hyatt.

Alright, we have 2 out of 3 days completed with Miguel. Kudos to Gaucho and everyone on here that recommended him. Miguel is an amazing guide that knows Argentine wine inside and out, and he selected wineries and meals that have been stupendous and matched perfectly to our preferences. This experience has been miles above others we’ve had in Europe and the US.

For day 1, we went to Budeguer, Andeluna, and Azul for lunch. Azul - holy cow. What a meal. You guys weren’t kidding about the lunches being huge. After two wineries and a 5 course meal/wine pairing at 2:30, there is no need for dinner! The pork loin and ribeye were to die for. All three had excellent wine as well.

Today was Maipú, with Karim Mussi’s bodega to start, then Finca Savina, and finally lunch at Agostino. Karim's wine was probably the best but it was also the most expensive by far. Savina had our first Bonarda of the trip and a great charcuterie plate. Agostino - they just keep feeding you! All excellent.

Some things that pop out at me - I am very surprised to see how prominent Cabernet Franc is here. I think we’ve tasted more of this than any other varietal. While we’ve tasted a fair amount of Malbec, it hasn’t been as prominent as I thought it would be.

Second - you’d be a fool not to have someone plan an itinerary for you that knows the area well. Unless you are familiar with the smaller producers yourself, and want to go through the hassle of tracking down all of the bookings, just leave this to someone who knows their stuff.

Finally - Argentina is fully open for business. I haven’t seen a single mask anywhere here, which has been a relief compared to Chile earlier this week. It’s OT for this thread, and I get that the restrictions there end in a few days, but going to Chile is like walking into a time warp a year ago where the mobility pass is still supposedly a thing and people are wearing masks all the time, even outside on the street.
