Hi all! My fiance and I will be getting married this November and are celebrating our honeymoon in Argentina. We will spend four nights in BA and then five nights in MDZ before heading home. I read this entire thread today and I feel like I have a much clearer idea of what to expect in Mendoza but I still have a couple general questions (and requests for opinions). First off, a little bit of background: we have done a fair amount of traveling in Europe and the US but nothing in S. America. We both enjoy wine a lot but are not aficionados ("winos" would be a more accurate descriptor). We want our time in Mendoza to be relaxing and would like to do a lot of good eating and drinking. So, onto the questions.
First off, where should we stay? We want something interesting (read: non-chain), but still modern and somewhat higher end. Basically, we want the Cavas Lodge but cannot afford it (I told them that we would have to come back to Cavas for an anniversary). Here is what I am looking at: Casa Margot Finca Adalgisa Robles de Besares Does anyone have any experience with these (in particular the first and third; TripAdvisor has a lot about Finca Adalgisa)? The second question is about the wine tours. My fiance and I would like to take a leisurely approach to this; laid-back tour, good lunch, good wine. We plan to hire a driver (through the hotel or a recommendation on this board) but would like some ideas of the best places to go for the more casual drinkers. Any particular advice (and I have read the board, I just want to see if there is anything new) for us? Finally, thanks so much to everyone who has posted before, in particular to Gaucho; your postings have been a great help to us! I will definitely post our experiences! We just got back about a month ago so i'd be more than happy to share anything I could as well if you'd like to send me a PM. |
Well, no one had anything negative to say about Casa Margot, so I booked it for my stay in Mendoza. FWIW, they respond quickly to emails and their English is very good. I'll write something up about them in November, after (or maybe during) my trip!

Need help on what to do in Mendoza
So I just ramdomly booked a trip down to Argentina due to the cheap flights. My plan is to do I think 4 nights in the Mendoza area, and was hoping people could give me help. I would like to stay in a nice country style wine lodge, and then one night in the actual city of Mendoza. Any suggestions. Would like to keep the nightly rate below $150, with it preferably being in the $100 range.
In terms of activities, I would like to do a couple days touring the wine region (probably with a driver). Does anyone have a private driver recommendation (there might be 4 of us, or maybe just 2). Also, will I be able to do a day trip into the Andes mountains? If so does someone have a tour company recommendation. Thanks for all the help. |
Please PM me if you want a TA recommendation.

Road Trip to the Andes
I have 4 days in Mendoza in November and wanted to spend one day driving/exploring the Andes. I know there is tour operators who will do day trips, but I'll have a car. Is it possible for me and my friends to explore the Andes on our on with a rental car? How easy would it be? Your help is much appreciated!

I suggest you explore Trip Advisor, I know a couple of folks that post over there that will be able to help you. Check out the Argentina Forums. |
Wine tasting itinerary in Mendoza
Gaucho100K -
If you had to design a whole day of wine tasting in Mendoza focused on sparkling wines, what would your day look like?! I am heading to Mendoza next week and my boyfriend and I would love to do a day of tastings entirely dedicated to sparkling wines. Is this feasible? Thanks! |

You would have to build your visit around Chandon... and then see if you can see one of the other producers that also have a relevant bubbly portfolio. Some names to consider: - Rutini - Nieto Senetiner - Familia Zuccardi |
Mendoza Wine Tour Driver
Hi all -
Just wanted to throw out a recommendation for a driver in Mendoza for touring wineries. His name is Ariel and he organized a fantastic 2 day tour for us. I had picked out about 7 wineries that I wanted to go to. He suggested against a couple of them, and the two he recommended instead (Benegas and Andeluna) were our two favorites. He called all the wineries ahead of time and arranged for tours and lunches (at Ruca Malen and Salentein) for us. At 3 of the places, we had our own private winery tour. At Benegas, our tasting lasted at least an hour. PM (private message) me if you'd like Ariel's email address. This was a couple years ago, but I highly recommend: Visiting Benegas Having lunch at Ruca Malen. Visiting Carmelo Patti Visiting Andeluna (absolutely beautiful grounds, wine was above average) Salentein was mediocre. Huge winery, lunch was okay, wines weren't great. Please let me know if you have questions. -M |
Wineries in one day with own car
Hi there,
I'm from Argentina, living in the US - During late November I'll be visiting my folks who live on the other side (East) of Argentina and I'm planning a road trip to Mendoza and Chile, driving my family's car. I'm allocating one day of the trip to tour some of the wineries. We'll be staying at the San Martin Hotel by Plaza Independecia. After reading all 22 pages on this thread looking for suggestions (phew!), I would like to ask for suggestions on what's recommended in my situation (I will have my own car and I'm from Argentina so the language is not a problem - a couple of the people in the party don't speak Spanish tho). It seems like the magic number for one day of tasting is 3-4 wineries. Since I will drive my own car, I would like to see if you guys can help me come up with a route to hit the wineries using the most scenic route possible. From what I read, the drive to Valle de Uco is beautiful, so maybe I could hit a couple on my way (Catena - to see the installations and go, Achaval Ferrer is one I have in mind to actually stop and tour) to finish in Uco. What do you guys suggest? Ideally I would love to have lunch at a winery that has outdoor seating so we can eat with the vineyards and the Andes as the background :) Another question, not related to wine though: The following day we would be on our way to Chile, hitting Aconcagua (its base), Puente del Inca and Christ the Redeemer before crossing to the other side and get to Santiago at night - has anyone done all this in one day? Thank you so much in advance... and gracias Gaucho for this fantastic thread. Mariano |
