Uber in BA
I have heard stories of people getting scammed with fake currency notes by taxi drivers. Is Uber reliable in Buenos Aires? Is payment charged to the credit card on file as in most locations? Or do I have to pay cash to the driver?
Thanks for any insights! |
Fake currency issues greatly diminished once the "most valuable note" became worth not very much. While it is always possible, figure that the most widely available note in circulation is worth less than US$10, so if you get scammed on your change from that, you're out no more than a few dollars. And the odds of that are quite low. After hundreds of taxi rides over the years, I've had one attempted phony taximeter charge (called him out on it and paid him less) and maybe two, max, drivers that wanted me to change $ (possible scam) - and both were many years ago.
I typically use Cabify, and pay cash. If I were to use UBER, unless my cash was running low, I'd also use cash. |

Have used Cabify a lot. Charged to my credit card with no problem.

All my Uber rides in Buenos Aires this past Oct/Nov were debited directly from the CC I had on the account.

Thank you so much. Is there a reason most people pay cash as opposed to linking their credit card on ride sharing apps like cabify or Uber? I just installed the Cabify app and it keeps prompting me for a payment method. I am not sure if I can reserve one without a credit card on file.
2) Drivers may be more likely to pick up a cash fare. I don't know exactly how the logistics work (i.e.,probably Cabify pulls the "Cabify" part of the driver's cash fares from the gross payment to the driver from CC fares, etc) but that's "what I've heard" from semi-reliable sources. |
