Flying out of AEP at 5 am - doable?
I am visiting Buenos Aires for the first time and am looking to stay at the Sheraton Buenos Aires. I understand it is a bit dated and undergoing renovations, but that's fine.
More importantly, I have a flight to Santiago at 0520 am from AEP. What time do I have to check in? I have a US passport with no checked luggage. Is it possible to find a reliable taxi through the hotel or an Uber so early in the morning? Will immigration and security even be open at that time :) ? Thanks! |
Buenos Aires is a 24-hour city of 12 million people. Taxis should be available (there is actually a taxi stop right at the Sheraton), Uber or Cabify will also work.
1.5 hours before departure usually does the trick at AEP. It’s a small airport. |
You should be able to have the hotel get you a taxi, or get a Cabify or Uber (I prefer Cabify there) - AEP departures are generally pretty easy, except for the check-in counters, which can be crazy. Also note that your airline can get pissy with your US-sized hand luggage, if you've got the standard full-size rollerbag.
I've only departed AEP a few times and the wait for passport control has been nominal, same with the security checkpoint. I'd try and be in a car by 3:30 am and you should be fine. Caveat - a major holiday - cars may be in quite limited supply, and you'll want to make advance arrangements. If you want a taxi service https://www.taxipremium.com.ar/es/ is generally the most reliable. |
Thank you very much!!

I had a 4:45AM flight to FTE last spring. Arrived at AEP at 3:30 and was at the gate in 10 minutes.
