Question re: VISA requirement for native Argentinian traveling on USA passport

My husband was born in Argentina, expired Argentinian passport.

He is a naturalized American citizen

He arrived May 15, used his American passport for entry.

He has now been gone > 60 days, and plans to return to USA sometime around August 15

What are his options?

Someone said if he renews his DNI, while there, he can use that to bypass the 60 day requirement

Barring that, what can he do?

As a Tourist, he can stay up to 3 months and I see he is just around that time, but as an Argentinian entering with a foreign passport, I'm 99% sure he can stay up to 180 days. I'm saying this because I have been using my US Passport to enter Argentina for the last 15 years, and they always write 180 days next to the stamp... but that had changed since last year because there are no more "passport stamp" when you enter/exit Argentina.

He can call (011)4317-0234 and ask about that, I'm sure he won't have any issue, worst case he will need to pay a fine when leaving Argentina, like 1.500/3.000 AR$ (less than 6 dollars).

As additional note, tell him to create an account with miArgentina, then make an appointment with RENAPER, that way he can renew his Argentinian Passport and DNI for less than 10 dollars (4.300 pesos), it will be shipped to the Arg. Consulate of his district (LA in his case) and it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get it, this is way cheaper than the cost in US (which is $185 for the passport and $15 for the DNI). I don't use my Argentinian passport, unless I have to visit a Country that require a Visa to my US Passport, like some countries in South America (Bolivia, Paraguay etc).

THIS IS SUPER SUPER HELPFUL!!!!!!!!!

I will need to check his passport to see if they allowed 180 days though ?

Good points.

A friend advised that all you need to do is to go to Migracions at AEP or EZE or in Retiro and pay a fee up to 10 days before leaving

Yes, but I don't think he need to pay it because he was born in Argentina. Unfortunately you won't find the 180 days hand written because there is no more passport stamp when you enter/exit Argentina (has been like that since last year).

Yes, it's all recorded electronically now. My Argentine husband always enters Argentina on his British passport and it used to be stamped "ARG - 180 DIAS". If you're there for more than 180 days, then you need to exit the coutry with an Argentine passport. Less than 180 days, and you can exit with the foreign passport you entered Argentina with. This rule hasn't changed since they stopped stamping passports. Here is the link to migraciones confirming the 180 days rule - Migraciones
  • Egreso:
