aerolineas sky priority elite plus baggage allowance

Thought this may be better on the Argentina forum than the South America airlines forum.

I've some domestic flights to book in Argentina, IGR > FTE > AEP.

Looks like I'm entitled to a free hold case as SkyTeam Elite Plus:
"Aerolíneas Plus Platinum, Gold, and Elite and Elite Plus SkyTeam members on Domestic/ Regional/ International flights: 1 additional piece with the same amount of kilos allowed by the fare type."

But looks like i wont be able to use the free case as my case will be 23kg from my initial travels and only the highest Aerolineas fare gives me a 23kg allowance.

Is there any way to get a 23kg allowance without having to splash out on the top end fare?

Looks like not - not even en español.

So it looks like if you get an economy fare that doesn't permit any baggage, you'd get one free @ 15kg.
If you get an economy fare that permits bag(s), you get an extra at 15kg.
Premium Economy is the only class that gives you 23kg on national flights. More than 23kg is cargo.

For AR$850 (what it is showing now for 16-23Kg), I'd just probably buy the fare I want and if charged, eat the fee.

Thanks, looks like we have the same understanding.

Probably best taking two 15kg cases, but will need to get one somewhere.

I have the same issue too. It's a real pain isn't it.

Yes, but for $12 to $15 total (depending on how you're getting your AR$, or if paying with a credit card), the hassle of how to avoid the charge for up to 23kg is not worth the trouble.

Three years on I'm finally making this trip, well on a slightly different route, and the same issue persists. I actually found my own thread through Google as I searched for answers!

Whilst happy just to pay the potential fee, I dont fancy being sent from check-in desk to another place to pay and all the hassles that potentially comes with needing to pay more at an airport.

Have decided to put a small carry on style case inside my larger case, and on the internal flights, I'll just use that as another hold bag. Might actually be handy having the small case for places I'm just staying one night.

Having done 8 internal flights on AA this year over two trips. They do not seem overly strict on the 15kg if it is just over it. When Mrs.yyckiwi did not re shuffle things for one flight and her bag was 19kg, we got a friendly reminder about the 15kg limit. I would expect as an elite plus member they would be even more lenient.

Two internal flights. Packed a spare backpack and used it for both, checking it into the hold with the two cases.

Buenos Aires to Salta - one case was marginally over, no comment from the check in staff, but he really did seem to want me to take my backpack on as cabin luggage. Non of bags tagged as priority.

Salta to Iguassu - one of cases was 19.9kg. not a word from the wonderfully polite check-in member of staff who jumped at the chance of service someone in the sky priority lane. The 19.9kg bag was tagged as as heavy baggage and all three bags tags as priority. At the other end, all three bags were with the first 12 off the plane and rolled round the carousel just as we walked through. Perfection! Much easier in small airports I guess!
