2017 Starwood Hotel Category Changes

For those thinking of stays in the next year, Starwood has announced upcoming category changes, eff. 7 March. Of note, Buenos Aires isn't changing, the fancy places are going up, and the Sheraton Mendoza is going down. Book now for a hotel that is going up, and you can rebook after 7 March for those that will have a reduced redemption rate.

Sheraton in Mendoza is a very good value as a Cat 2. It was a Cat 2 when I first stayed there on points about 5 years ago.

I'm glad I already got my reservation for Auberge du Vin! Going from 7K points (or 5600 per night with a 5 night reservation) to 12-16K per night is quite a hike.

I have just come back from Auberge du Vin and it's a fantastic property and amazing value as an SPG Cat 3 property. I would urge any SPG/Marriott members to make booking a points booking before the changeover next week!
