Día de Malvinas in Buenos Aires
 

I am headed to BA for a week, planning to arrive on April 2 (a Saturday) which I see is Malvinas Day, an official federal holiday. I can't find much information at all about this rather new Argentine holiday and would appreciate some insight as to how big a deal it actually is and what's open and not (groceries, restaurants). Will it cause any difficulty with transit, etc? Would it be more advisable to arrive on the first instead? The fact that there's not much information about it leaves me hopeful that it's not very disruptive. Thanks for any info.

All shops and restaurants will be open. Taxis and remises will run as normal.There is unlikely to be any disruption of any kind.

There will be no normal banking operations on April 2nd, but EZE is a special location so it will most probably be open. Having said that, if its closed you can still use your ATM card to draw some Pesos. Now that the Peso has been floated, the exchange rate is no longer an extremely relevant issue.

Hardly any difference with a normal Saturday. I don't know the working hours of the Banco Nación at EZE (I think they work 24/7 but don't quote me on that) but banks in downtown Buenos Aires will obviously be closed. Shopping malls will be open, and so will be restaurants/cafés. I would check on museums, not really sure about that, though I'd like to think the Museo Malvinas will be open!

Other than that, there might be a peaceful demonstration somewhere in town (small groups sometimes gather in front of the British Embassy in Recoleta), but nothing to worry about. Usually in Malvinas Day all the action moves to Tierra del Fuego - many veterans down there and fueguinos still get very emotional about the war.

The Banco Nacion adjacent to arrivals is open 24/7 . Otherwise you wouldnt be able to pay customs duties if requested by the friendly Customs officials....
