Are you going for a day? a week? a month? a year?

You will need cash for taxis, tips and depending on the restaurant you may also have to pay in cash. Same goes for shopping.... cash may be better at some places, although most will also take your plastic.

Staying almost two weeks I guess with a 1:3.89 exchange for us Canucks, i'll get a few hundred pesos.

I went through US$250 or so while in Bs As (in addition to my plastic), and I was there for ten days.

Even though plastic is readily accepted, many smaller shops will not take plastic for small purchases. In the US you can pay $1.50 in Starbucks with plastic but that will not happen in Argentina; Cabs do not accept credit card; if you go to any of the markets (San Telmo for example) they will not take plastic.
If you also buy in a smaller/privately owned shop, you can negotiate a better price if you pay in cash vs. plastic.
I find that I use much more cash in Argentina than I do in France or even in Italy (a cash-loving society).
I also rent an apartment when I am in Argentina and they require payment in cash (US$) on arrival.
You get the best rate around with no fees at the Banco de la Nacion in the airport; it is usually better than any of the commercial banks in the city; You can also exchange pesos back into US$ when you leave the country without any fees so I usually prefer to have more in cash.
Enjoy BAires. It is a great place.

Starbucks in EZE will take plastic for any purchase amount.... so will McDonalds.

-Had 100 dollars in Canadian Coin so I went to the Bianco Bank just past customs (which really isn't customs since they let everyone thru) and voila.

I tried my Debit card through their machine but nothing would work.

All of my travel from hotel to Company site and back is paid by the company. I think the cash will come more in hand once saturday rolls arouind and my 4-day trip aroiund Argentina begins.

So far:

-Discovered great food costs not a whole lot
-Beef really does taste better then Alberta Beef
-BA is very polar..amid the money there is also scenes: like a 8 year old girl asking for money from car to car at a red light

Looking forwad to the rest of the week, bars and tango and all other great things! :)
