Happy Birthday Old Girl
Just saw a Kendell (sorry, Rex) Saabie on approach to SYD, still in the old AN livery. While it was nice to see the gold A up there and still flying in some manner, it reminded me it would have been the old girl's 67th tomorrow. I guess no vestige or trace will be left by the time 68 rolls around.

And who was it that had a stall at the Avalon Air Show with all sorts of AN stuff for sale - drink bottles, models, safety cards, caps, pictures, posters etc? If the airline wasn't dead, you'd swear that it was an on-going affair by the display of souvenirs.

You can give your life, or
You can lose your soul
You can bang your head
Or you can drown in hole
Nothing lasts forever
But you can try
Look around you
Everyone you see
Everyone you know
Is going to shine
You can lose your soul
You can bang your head
Or you can drown in hole
Nothing lasts forever
But you can try
Look around you
Everyone you see
Everyone you know
Is going to shine

The company with all the Ansett memorabilia at Avalon is Flarose.
Flarose was Ansett's merchandise supplier.
http://www.flarose.com.au/
The products are much cheaper on the net, compared to at Avalon. Some interesting products there.
Gee, it's been a long time since I've read an Ansett post in the Ansett forum.

Great, great site.
I just bought a bunch of stuff.
Thank you for that link. I still miss Ansett every time I think of my home away from home.

Originally the song was titled "Die" not "Shine", and written after Vanessa's friend committed suicide. She was advised to change that one word. Makes sense when you know the history involved.

Thanks for the response - it seemed just like old times seeing the stall full of goodies.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone
Prevent the dog barking with a fat juicy bone
Silence the piano and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come
Let aeroplanes circle, moaning way overhead
Sky scribbling the message "Ansett Is Dead"
Put the crepe bow round the white necks of doves
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves
Ansett was my North, my East South and West
My working week, my days of rest
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song
I thought it would last forever, but how I was wrong
The stars are not wanted now, put out every one
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
Goodbye my Lovely Lady.

puh-leeze spare us the mushy sentiment. this is an airline you're talking about, and a pretty ordinary one at that. when ansett went under i lost a half million global rewards points - thanks to crap management. i don't miss ansett at all.

Ansett may not have been the best business on the planet, but they certainly had their good points. I certainly enjoyed flying them when they were around, and they have left a void not yet filled in the Australian market.
If you managed to amass half a million GR points - they must've done something right.
