Singapore Airlines considering proposal to revive Ansett
Singapore Ailines Ltd (SIA) is considering a move to revive the collapsed Ansett airline with a proposal to be put to the SIA board, Nine Network news reported without specifying sources.
According to the report, SIA consultants began preparing the proposal for a full service domestic competitor to Qantas Airways about six months ago with the proposal completed about a week ago.
The report cited Sydney Airports Corp spokesman Greg Russell as saying SIA was serious about the move.
"We have every reason to believe this is being considered very seriously indeed," Russell said.
The SIA Australian fleet would comprise 24 Airbus aircraft and would retain the Ansett brand name, which the consultants found still had strong support, the report said.

Singapore Airlines said it is keeping its options open in Australia, in a response to reports in Australia that it is considering to revive Ansett Australia.
"Our position remains the same. We are keeping our options open in the Australian market," an SIA spokesman said.
He would not confirm or deny the reported revival plan, but stressed that Australia remains an important market for SIA.
