Oh, the best part of the meeting was...

Before the meeting proper started, they were showing Channel 9 on the "big screens" in the arena... and of coruse the cricket was on, you can imagine the cries of pleasure when not 1 but 2 kiwi wickets fell, but then in a bit of unfortunate advertising placement, an ad for Air New Zealand came on - the boos and hisses from the Ansett staff ranks was quite impressive! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

RichardMEL,

An interesting commentary was made over here in CHC that they hope that the story of QF NZ and AN3 will not be written with same pen. Local business figures taking over an essentially domestic airline with huge debts and then making a total botch job of it and loosing even more money than the first enterprise.

It does sound very very similar with the same fanfare ideas, business people, model and the like. Just hope it works.

Time will tell.

RichardMEL,

Ooops almost forgot my original post.

Your description of the AN hissing at the NZ commercial is like the Steinlarger billboard in the London Underground at the moment.

"What do you call a sophisticated Australian"

"A New Zealander!"

No one denies that Australians of NZ descent are sophisticated - ask any Centrelink official and they'll vouch for that!

And for the 10 millionth time - QF did not own QFNZ, it was a franchise...quite different for NZ's ownership of AN.

QFATW,

Hmmm touchy subject. I was just pointing out that QF NZ was own by a group of businessmen and was once a failed airline (AN NZ was owned 18.5% by QF), and that the new AN has a some similarities. And that in the NZ press this has been a topic of discussion.

Never said that QF owned QF NZ. Now we all know that QF supported QF NZ and then left them and the pax high and dry when they went under. QF had to make a variety of financial settlements on this issue.

But here is not the area to debate that.

BTW - if you check the immigration stats, Kiwis have the lowest proportion of people on the dole/welfare for any immigrant group and at a rate half that of your dinky di Australian.

Now why I am supporting kiwis all of sudden is beyond me!
