Slightly OT: The old Zip code conundrum
 

I expected this (even got used to it) in the early days of the web but haven't come across it for some time now that it was a bit of a surprise.

So, basically as a non US citizen I can't book tickets on the Amtrak site because anything other than a US ZIP code in your billing address is not acceptable.

I will refrain from a rant about on this subject and just ask, have any other non US members gotten around this problem?

I wrote to Amtrak and they offered to book the ticket for me if I send them the details by email (rather a weak response). Will I still get the discount code reduction though if I do this?

try using 00000 (that is supposed to work at pay-at-the-pump type places, and it might work here).
The credit card section has a place to select a country, so I would assume it would also work if you had a numeric non-US postal code and entered it in the ZIP code box.

Yeah exactly you would think so but it simply doesn't except the non-US code whatever country you choose. It used to be like this all the time but things got better. The state was also a problem. You can't imagine how many times I had to say I lived in Alabama. Unfortunately that doesn't work when you are giving a billing address for a credit card.....woops I feel that rant coming on.

Anyway, thanks for the tip on the 00000 number. I will give it a try.

Interesting. The last screen does let you choose foreign countries, so I would assume it would let you put in a matching (i.e. non-U.S.) postal code. I did not want to try booking a ticket and putting in a fake postal code, so I couldn't get to whatever error you were seeing--what was the error? Do you have no postal code (in which case, try putting in 0 or something, or use Amtrak's home ZIP of 20020, for Washington, DC), or did it error out when you put in your postal code?

Ich habe gerade versucht, eine Bestellung mit der deutschsprachige Version der Amtrak Website zu machen, und die Website hat mir gegeben, genau die gleichen Felder mit amerikanischen Strassen und Hausnummern und Postleitzahlen auszufüllen. Aber Sie können mit der deutsche Sprache die Website probieren...

(Es tut mir leid...mein Deutsch ist sehr schlecht...)
