Bad news....but we knew it was too good to last...especially after Amtrak created AGR,


ALASKA AIRLINES MILEAGE PROGRAM ENDING

03 EFFECTIVE JULY 15, 2007, AMTRAK IS DISCONTINUING PARTICIPATION
04 IN THE AMTRAK-ALASKA AIRLINES MILEAGE PROGRAM.

06 - CURRENT ALASKA AIRLINES MILEAGE PLAN MEMBERS MAY ACCRUE
07 POINTS ON ELIGIBLE AMTRAK ROUTES THROUGH JULY 15, 2007.

09 - AMTRAK WILL HONOR ALL RAIL AWARDS ISSUED BEFORE JULY 15,
10 2007 FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR ENDING JULY 15, 2008.

12 - IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ALL ALASKA AIRLINES MILEAGE PLAN POSTERS,
13 BROCHURES AND ENROLLMENT FORMS FROM STATIONS.
14
15 - KEEP NRPC 3070, MILEAGE CREDIT FORM, THROUGH JULY 15, 2007.
16 AFTER THAT DATE, DESTROY AND RECYCLE ANY THAT REMAIN.

Yep, we all knew this day was inevitable. At least the partnership has lasted this long, especially considering that it started around the beginning of 1999, and Guest Rewards was established in 2000. AGR could've steamrolled this thing a long time ago.

From 2001 to 2006, I redeemed six Coast Starlight round-trip roomette awards (rough total value of $3,000-$6,000) through the AS partnership, mostly on miles earned traveling Amtrak. Of course, I also earned AGR points at the same time thanks to the allowed practice of double-dipping. Needless to say, this gravy train was fabulous while it lasted. R.I.P.
