Conductor Wouldn't Notice AGR Issue

Yes, but even if IDs are checked, the chances of a conductor noticing the AGR number are nonexistent.

Extra Tickets + Multi Segment?

Here is another question. Say that you wanted to book a few multiple segments, and you run up to the limit, of 4. After that, from the last station, you just buy another ticket, for another 4 segments, from that station. You continue this on to the end, and as well in return. The one route I am thinking of is PHL to HAR, 11 stops each way. Can you book 4 segments, 4 segments, and then 3 segments, and then the same on the return, gaining 2200 points for a round trip? Has anyone tried this?

You certainly could do this - the price is just going to be more than whatever PHL-HAR costs when booked as a single itinerary.

Of course it won't work; upgrades are segment-based.

it is cheaper to but two one ways one from lancaster to downingtown and then downingtown to 30th street. However downington doesn't have a ticket office so they mail your tickets, so you have to book in advance.

Speaking of Amtrak MRs, I was wondering if one really has to be on the train they've bought a ticket for to get the AGR points.

Could you just pick up the tickets at the station and go home, still receiving the points?

Just found the answer.

Keystone Service

This whole route is great. The total fare from HAR-PHL is $19. Head four stops from HAR to LNC (HAR-MID-ELT-MJY-LNC) or from PHL to DOW (PHL-ARD-PAO-EXT-DOW) for just $6 ($1.50 per ticket).

While I know that one can't get multiple 100-point credits anymore while being on the same train number (which you could when this was written, I think), by using the multi-city option one can still get three segments on succeeding trains with different numbers going Harrisburg (HAR) to Middletown (MID), MID to Elizabethtown (ELT), ELT to Lancaster (LNC), for $6 (which is the price for one ticket on the same train from HAR to LNC) and back through the same city pairs for another $6. It seems that one could get 100 AGR points for $2 (or $1.80 if using AAA). I like the idea of earning Select Plus for $200! (Of course there is the time factor -- this might be for someone with an understanding (or enabling) spouse/significant other!)

So, one can purchase such a journey, but will one earn 300 AGR points for a one-way journey? The journeys are traveled on different trains (with different conductors), but the tickets themselves don't have train numbers on them because the Keystone Service is unreserved between HAR and Philadelphia (PHL). Will AGR be able to see that the trips were taken on different trains, or would the AGR computer squawk because of (non-existent) fraud?

Yes, as long as you travel on three different trains, you will earn at least 300 AGR points (more if you are currently Select or Select Plus, or if you were lucky enough to be targeted for the current Spring Double Points promotion). When a conductor turns in tickets, the train on which the tickets were collected is apparently transmitted to AGR, even though train numbers do not appear on one's AGR statement. In December, I traveled on a multi-segment ticket on unreserved Amtrak trains in Southern California, and got 325 points per segment, thanks to a Triple Miles promotion and my Select status. (I think I ended up paying something like $10.40 for 975 AGR points!)
