New Western Dining Car Menu

After several years, the dining car menu has finally changed. There are something called "Pork Wings" for lunch and dinner; the mussels are gone. French toast is available again for breakfast. Green beans for the vegetable have been replaced by a "medley."

Here is the menu:

Do you know if this is for all long distance/over night trains? I'm taking the California Zephyr next week.

This is the menu for the California Zephyr, as well as the Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, and Texas Eagle. The other overnight trains have limited, pre-cooked offerings.

Amtrak posts its long-haul menus here:
https://www.amtrak.com/onboard/meals...ining-car.html

Currently rotating Acela F menu here:

You can also look at the website for other options on long-haul as well as cafe offerings.

Took the Spirit of New Orleans a couple months ago. Was disappointed by the new microwave dishes, especially because they were announced and implemented after I bought my overnight fancy cabin tickets.

Is the long haul food the same style/quality of the food in Acela F? I am always disappointed by the food on the acela.

The long-haul food is nominally "prepared" in a kitchen on-board. Actually, most of it is pre-cooked; notably, the steak and eggs are cooked to order. But the quality of the food is on par with a Denny's.

I have not been to a Denny's in many years... but have Denny's gone that far down hill?

I assume you can still get a fairly decent breakfast there at least.

That Food Facts site is eye-opening. Many of the Acela F meals are nutritionally atrocious.

I took the Coast Starlight from SEA to OAK this past weekend without having seen this thread, and without having eaten in an Amtrak dining car in 30 years, and "Denny's" is exactly what I thought too. Except the last times I ate at Denny's, they didn't get something wrong on two of my three meal orders.

Nothing catastrophic, and the views and company were good, but I do regret not riding again before the downgrades of the last several years began.

I took the California Zephyr last week. I feel like the food is a step down from the last menu.

I have some photos of the meals here if you want to check them out in reality.
