New York Penn this summer

How bad really is New York Penn this summer? If I book a mid-day trip up to Boston, am I guaranteed long delays? Any tips for getting through the chaos, getting a good seat, smoother boarding, etc?

I have taken Acela a few times this summer, and have not noticed any major changes, delays still happen, but don't seem to be longer than before.

I have purposely not taken any regional trains.

I've taken a few Regionals. Slightly more crowded than usual but otherwise no difference.

Downstairs boarding or using a redcap are the tried and true methods for getting a good seat, track repair or not.

I forgot to report back on this. We left a minute or two early. Got a row to myself. There weren't many empty rows, but I would say the number of rows with two people that I saw was really limited.
