Redeeming Points on the Maple Leaf
I know that it is not possible to redeem points on the rail controlled by VIA, but is it possible to redeem points on the NFL-NYP portion of the journey (within the US) and stay on the same train? Has anyone had any experience with this?

No problema! Just buy a VIA ticket from Toronto to the Border (Amtrak will handle Booking/Ticketing for you), and Book your AGR Award from the Border to NYP! As you may know this is a VIA Train on Amtrak Equipment between Toronto and Niagara Falls, Ontario, then a Crew Change is done @ the VIA Station and it becomes an Amtrak Train to NYP! Customs and Immigration is done Inside the Niagara Falls, NY Station after Crossing the Border!
Amtrak has Business Class on this Train (the Nice 2x1 Seating in Half the Cafe Car) but VIA doesnt but they only charge $1 to ride in this car between Toronto and the Border if you have a Biz Class Seat from the Border to NYP!!The Food and Drink in the Cafe uis changed out during the Crew Change and VIA Sells Coke Products, Amtrak Pepsi only! |
Excellent, thanks! So if I buy a ticket from TWO-NFL and then redeem points for the rest of the journey, I won't experience any (forseeable) problems and will get to stay on the train? Great! Should I book my ticket from NFL-NYP or from the border (I don't know the code) to NYP?
Thank you very much for your help!! |
Buy the ticket TWO-CBN, and redeem CBN-NYP. The CBN code helps the train crew and border authorities understand that you're remaining on the train beyond the border.

Perfect, thanks! Is this bookable through the website, by the way? I'm entering the code "CBN," but it keeps telling me that CBN is an invalid station name. Do I need to call to book?

Awesome, thanks so much for y'all's help! I'm looking forward to a much-needed lengthy Amtrak journey!
