Redcap tip
I have never seen any recommendations for the amount to tip the Redcaps. My tips have ranged of $5.00 (NYP from the Club Acela to the Adirondack with one medium sized suitcase) to $20.00 (NYP from the Club Acela to the Cardinal with one medium sized suitcase and two roll aboards, and CHI for quickly transferring the same suitcase from a late Zephyr to a waiting City of New Orleans). Incidentally, have always found Redcap service to be some of the best and most consistent in the Amtrak system.

I would say the general "rule of thumb" for tipping bellman, redcaps, etc. remains $1.00 - $2.00 per bag.
Having said that, I would not tip less than $5 for the long walk from the Acela club down to the platform, and if there were multiple bags or people, $10-$20 is appropriate. I think your past tips would be viewed by the red caps as both generous and appropriate. |
I usually do $5 per person. If it's a family of four, $20 seems reasonable if we all have bags. If it's just one bag and a family of four I might do $10.

I normally do anywhere between $2 (when I have no bags and he is just walking me to the train so I can preboard in BOS) to $5.
