I believe that would be the Floridian. It is too bad we don't have a direct Florida-Chicago route anymore.

Or New York to Chicago non-stop. I'm thinking Acela-style. Too bad the all the track upgrades and new equiptment needs gets in the way...

OK, AlanB, as expected, you win!

(Sidenote: we should meet- don't you live in NYC? I do. I like railroads so much that I even make every excuse to "have" to take Metro-North, the LIRR or NJ Transit on weekends.)

Northeast Regional and the Crescent only. We're seriously considering taking the Empire Builder from end to end, probably in 2012. And possibly the Coast Star-Late the year after that.

We'd do those trips earlier, but I have some major surgery and a lengthy recovery pending, and I doubt I'll be physically up to it before the end of 2011.

I wish I had the time for cross-country travel, but alas. Maybe in a few years. Until then, up and down the East Coast I go.

All routes that have a sleeper

Off topic:
Virtually every train in Switzerland. Most in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Most main lines in the rest of Western Europe (plus a little in Slovakia, Czech R., and former Yugoslavian countries). Most of Japan. Some Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Small bit of China. Trans Siberian. Much of South America and some of central America and Mexico (mostly shut down now). Good chunk of Morocco. Most of Canada plus the Alaska Railroad. Maui and Disneyland too.
