Double Points - Targetted

I received a targetted offer from AmEx (Gold) regarding double points on purchases for the period 10/1/08 through 12/31/08. Thinking of cancelling in January when my fee comes due. Will any points not posted by cancellation be lost? I plan to transfer earned points (including bonus) to my SkyMiles account as soon as they post but the offer states 6-10 weeks for the bonus points and even the regular points take forever to post.

What was the basis of the monthly threshold? The promotion wouldn't have any value if the threshold is based upon your normal spending patterns . . .

I didn't receive the offer (yet? maybe it is waiting for me at home), and I was able to register using the link above without any issues.

I got a triple points offer for travel purchases over $4500/mo from Oct 1 through Dec 31 for my Gold card (max 20K bonus).

Link to register americanexpress.com/goldtravel8

Any way to tell which charges are being counted as "travel"?

Log into your AmEx account, go into "Recent Activity", select a statement and "See More Options" - you'll then be able to select "Travel".

$4,500 a month in hotels, airfare, rental cars, airport parking, and TCs (all that show as travel for me in the last three months) is a pretty high threshold.
